12 Different Fox Species

 

 

Arctic Fox 

 Arctic foxes are found in the Arctic tundra of the Northern Hemisphere. Also known as the polar fox, snow fox, or white fox. This species has adapted to cold climates. Arctic foxes have multi-layered coats, furry foot pads, and seasonal camouflage which helps them to survive in some of the coldest habitats in the world. 

Fennec Fox

 Fennec foxes are native o the Sahara Desert, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Arabian Desert. They have large ears which help them in the heat by flapping them to cool them off. Fennec foxes are the smallest species of fox. 

Pale Fox

 Pale foxes live in the Sahel region of Africa. They have a sandy-colored coat that helps them blend in with their desert-like habitats. The population for this species is quite large and stable.

Blanford's Fox 

 The Blanford's fox was named after an English naturalist, William Blanford. They are also known as the Afghan fox, royal fox, and dog fox. These foxes live in parts of Central Asia and the Middle East.

Cape Fox

 Cape foxes are a small species of fox that live in Southern Africa. These foxes are solitary, nocturnal, and omnivorous. 

Corsac Fox

 The Corsac fox lives in the desert in Central Asia. They can go long periods without food or water and adapt to their environments.

Tibetan Sand Fox

 Tibetan sand foxes are only found in the vicinity of the Tibetan and the Ladakh Plateau in semi-arid and arid grasslands up to elevations of 17,000 feet. This species will prey on pikas, rodents, marmots, hares, and lizards. 

Swift Fox

 Swift foxes inhabit the western grasslands of North America. They eat both plants and animals. This species became extinct in Canada in the 1930s but came back in the 1990s. 

Kit Fox

 Kit fox population range from central Mexico to the southern United States. The kit fox is the smallest species of fox in North America. They prefer arid regions and their large ears help them with the heat.

Ruppell's Fox

 Ruppell's Fox was named after a German naturalist, Eduard Ruppell. They can be found in the Middle East, southwestern Asia, and Northern Africa. They live in sandy or rocky deserts, scrublands, or steppes. 

Bengal Fox

 Bengal foxes are only found in the Indian subcontinent. They prefer grasslands and semi-arid thorn or scrub forests. 

Red Fox

 The red fox is the largest species of fox. They live in the Northern Hemisphere. These foxes are mostly red but they can also be reddish brown to platinum.
